TONDO TONDO
Pattern design for industrial inlays
I took inspiration from the iconic blue and white ceramics created by Gio Ponti between 1960 and 1962 for the Parco dei Principi Hotel in Sorrento, Naples. Squares and circles are recurring elements in this design, so I decided to keep these geometries by playing with the grain of the wood to obtain a contemporary pattern, simple and elegant at the same time.
The goal, as well as aesthetic, is not to produce waste during processing.
Tondo Tondo is an industrial inlay in natural dyed veneer Tay and Walnut produced by TABU. The project was the winner in the Students category of the Contest IDEASxWOOD 2019 and received the Honorable Mention at the XXVII Compasso d'Oro, as belonging to the X collection ReThinking the Future.
Per questo progetto ho preso ispirazione dalle iconiche ceramiche in bianco e blu realizzate da Gio Ponti tra il 1960 e il 1962 per l’Hotel Parco dei Principi di Sorrento, Napoli. Quadrati e cerchi sono elementi ricorrenti in questo design, ho perciò deciso di mantenere queste geometrie giocando con le venature del legno per ottenere un pattern contemporaneo, semplice ed elegante al tempo stesso.
L’obbiettivo oltre che estetico è di non produrre scarto durante la lavorazione, in modo da rispettare le tematiche della sostenibilità, del riciclo, dell'etica, dell'attenzione al benessere verso il pianeta.
Tondo Tondo è l’intarsio industriale in piallaccio naturale tinto Tay e Noce prodotto da TABU, vincitore nella categoria Studenti del Contest IDEASxWOOD 2019 e e riceve la Menzione d'Onore al XXVII Compasso d’Oro, in quanto appartenente alla collezione ReThinking the Future.
